Galicia is an autonomous region of Spain, bordering to the North of Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean to the North and West as shown in the mapas de galicia. Interestingly, the local language is Galician which has been derived from Latin but is closely related to Portuguese. The Galician language is taught in local schools to preserve the Galician culture too.
The spectacular landscapes and undeveloped scenery of the coast attract great numbers of tourists to Galicia. Galicia has preserved much of its dense forests where wildlife flourishes. The scenery is filled with green hills, cliffs, and lower valley rivers (called rías). The rías are important for local fishing, and Galicia is known for its fish-based cuisine. Galacia has many small mountain ranges and rivers, which collectively provide a source for hydroelectric power.
